Requirements:
----------------
* have node.js installed
* have an HTML5-enabled web browser
* make sure that javascript is turned on for that browser. For data collection, make sure that pop-ups are not blocked.
* If you are running the SVG graph applications in Chromium, be sure to run them on your localhost using a local server such as Apache.


Running the layout server:
--------------------------------
* go to the ./GraphServerGith directory.
* Enter into your command line: node graphserver.js
* The server is now running on localhost!


Running the graph applications:
-------------------------------------
* make sure that the layout server is running on your machine (see above).
* Open any of the html files in the ./project directory. 
* Enter the number of nodes for your graph.
* Enter the connectivity level for your graph.
* If you request a graph with between 500 and 1,000 nodes, it may take a while for the server to compute the layout. Please wait.
* When the graph is done loading, it will appear in the html file's Canvas/SVG/Protovis viewport.

Note: The Canvas applications in this directory are optimized for drawing in Firefox. 
	See the comments in the graphDrawCanvas and drawEdgesCanvas in graphobject.js to optimize them for Chrome instead.


Controls for interactive graph applications: 
------------------------------------------------
* Drag the background with the mouse to pan the camera.
* Use the mouse's scroll wheel to zoom in and out of an area in the visualization.
* You can also use - and = on the keyboard to zoom in and out of the center of the screen.
* Click and drag nodes to move them around.
* Hover your mouse over a node to view its tooltip label.
* Click a node to toggle the highlight property of it and its neighbors. See if you can highlight all the nodes in your graph!
* Press R on the keyboard to reset the camera and unhighlight all nodes.


Running the Data collecting graph applications: 
----------------------------------------------------
* make sure that the layout server is running on your machine (see above).
* The data collection files are in the ./Data_Collection directory. The code and html files are located in ./Data_Collection/project.
	These are the automated versions of our graph applications used to collect time data during our experiments. 
	They are all google-closure-compiled to optimize speed. If you make any changes to the code in this folder, you can recompile it 
	using the makefile in ./Data_Collection.
* The automated applications are designed to run tests for several graphs chained one after the other. The graph tests are specified by the 
	JSON code in the dataSets.js file. You can change these values without having to recompile the applications. 
	You must specify 3 values for connectivity levels.
* To run the data collection applications, put the ./Data_Collection/project directory on your localhost server and access the starting 
	html file (the one you specified first in dataSets.js) from localhost. The applications use session data to chain experiments 
	together, so they will not work if ran directly from your file system.
* The data collected from these applications is presented in pop-up windows. Make sure that pop-up windows are not blocked by your 
	browser while you are running the data collection applications. 

Note: The Canvas applications in this directory are optimized for drawing in Chrome. 
	See the comments in the graphDrawCanvas and drawEdgesCanvas in commonObjects.js to optimize them for Firefox instead.
